• Immigration policy should benefit American workers

Please work with President Trump to fulfill his goal of improving the lives of all Americans. I am confident that Congress can work in a non-partisan manner to make this happen.

  • End chain migration and the visa lottery

The U.S. Commission on Immigration Reform, created by President Bill Clinton and chaired by civil rights activist and former U.S. Representative Barbara Jordan, concluded that immigration was too high and that immigration numbers need to be lowered to serve the national interest. The commission also stressed that immigration numbers need to be reduced to protect American workers. New legislation, the Reforming American Immigration for Strong Employment Act, will soon be introduced by Sen. Tom Cotton and would fulfill two of the key recommendations of the Jordan Commission: ending the visa lottery and ending chain migration. Passing this legislation into law would help to fulfill the recommendations of the commission by ending the visa lottery and ending chain migration. Please cosponsor this legislation when it is introduced and help to get it passed into law.

  • Cosponsor mandatory E-Verify legislation

I hope you will cosponsor and support the S. 179, Sen. Grassley’s legislation to mandate use of the E-Verify system. This bill provides for a sensible phase-in of mandatory use of the E-Verify system and will help combat identity fraud. With millions of Americans unable to find a full-time job this legislation is truly important.

  • Congress needs to pass E-Verify to end illegal immigration

I am ecstatic that the Trump administration has issued executive orders to help reform and repair our nation’s broken immigration system. These executive orders fully or partially deal with 6 of NumbersUSA’s “10 Steps to Fix Our Broken Immigration-Enforcement System.” In addition to passing legislation to support these executive actions, I urge you and your colleagues to pass legislation to mandate use of the E-Verify system.

  • Confirm Senator Sessions for Attorney General

Please vote in favor of Sen. Sessions’ nomination for the post of Attorney General. Sen. Sessions has consistently expressed a desire to uphold the law and to make sure our nation’s laws are enforced. He will make a fine attorney general and I urge you to vote to approve his nomination.

  • Block sanctuary legislation

I cannot fathom why the Senate is considering legislation to further shield criminal aliens from deportation. How many more like Kate Steinle have to die before California leaders understand that criminal aliens must be removed, not released. Use the authority of your office to end debate on S.B. 54. You’ll also be helping to prevent the budget meltdown that will occur when the Trump Administration cuts our federal funds.

  • Please vote to confirm Senator Sessions as AG

Please vote to confirm Senator Jeff Sessions as attorney general. The new administration has a lot of work ahead of it repairing the damage done to our country and to the rule of law by the previous administration, and Senator Sessions can play a key role in that effort.

  • Time to celebrate

Ding Dong! The Witch is dead. Which old Witch? The Wicked Witch! Ding Dong! The Wicked Witch is dead. Wake up — sleepy head, rub your eyes, get out of bed. Wake up, the Wicked Witch is dead. He’s gone where the goblins go, Below — below — below. Yo-ho, let’s open up and sing and ring the bells out. Ding Dong’ the merry-oh, sing it high, sing it low. Let them know The Wicked Witch is dead!

  • Time to pay attention: An open letter to Larry Cusack

At your meet-the-candidates event at Johnnie D’s on November 1, 2016, I asked you if the problems with municipal water systems as seen in Adelanto and with the Los Angeles DWP were any cause for concern. Your response was that you didn’t know what was going on in other locales — you knew what was going on in Apple Valley.

  • Voters support Jordan Commission recommendations

I hope you will study the recommendations made by the Jordan Commission on Immigration Reform before voting on immigration bills during the 115th Congress. The commission, headed by civil rights activist Barbara Jordan and endorsed by then-President Bill Clinton, recommended that immigration laws be enforced and immigration levels be reduced to secure our nation and improve the lives of all Americans.

  • GOP platform & Trump promises should guide immigration

I am glad that the Republican Party’s immigration platform closely matched many of President-elect Trump’s immigration enforcement pledges. I urge you to work with the incoming president to make these pledges into law.

  • No additional refugee funding or H-2B increases

We hear that President Obama wants Congress to more than double refugee resettlement spending to $3.9 billion in the upcoming continuing resolution. We urge you to oppose this request and to oppose efforts to extend the provision exempting returning H-2B workers from the H-2B cap.

  • Open letter to Art Bishop

At your meet-and-greet event at Johnnie D’s on November 1, 2016, you asked if I believed Liberty Utilities was going to ask for a 14% rate increase. I said I did not. Let me return the favor: Do you believe Liberty will ask for a 14% increase, now that they have apparently asked for an increase of only 4.88%?

  • McCaul border bill won’t secure the border

In recent days, I’ve heard House GOP Leaders talk about using Rep. Michael McCaul’s border bill, H.R. 399, as a starting point for immigration reform. I don’t support this bill, and President-elect Donald Trump already has the authorization he needs to secure the border through existing legislation.

  • No new legislation needed to complete border fence

We are glad that President-elect Trump and Vice President-elect Pence are committed to building a fence along the Southern border and that many Republican Members of Congress are committed to making it happen. Existing law already gives the president the authority needed to build a fence, and we hope you’ll support President-elect Trump in this effort.

  • Do not to repeat last year’s expansion of H-2B guest-worker program

USCIS recently notified employers to identify returning workers on their H-2B applications for FY2017. This was done in anticipation of Congress extending a provision from last year’s spending bill that exempted returning workers from the annual cap of 66,000, potentially quadrupling the number of visas given out. This would have a devastating effect on American workers with a high school education or less who have unemployment rates significantly higher than the national average. Please oppose any efforts to expand the H-2B visa program in the FY2017 spending bills.

  • New report shows impact of immigration on less educated workers

Research by the National Academy of Sciences has concluded that high levels of immigration benefit businesses instead of workers and reduces wages for low-skilled and less-educated workers. Please support overall reductions in immigration numbers to protect jobs and wages for all Americans.

  • Oppose any expansion of the H-2B visa program

I urge you to oppose any expansion of the H-2B low-skilled guest worker program in the upcoming continuing resolution. The unemployment rates for Americans with a high school degree or less are nearly double the national average, and these Americans have to compete directly for jobs with H-2B visa holders.

  • Don’t expand H-2B visas in 2017

USCIS recently notified employers to identify returning workers on their H-2B applications for FY2017. This was done in anticipation of Congress extending a provision from last year’s spending bill that exempted returning workers from the annual cap of 66,000, potentially quadrupling the number of visas given out. Please oppose any efforts to expand the H-2B visa program in the FY2017 spending bills.

  • Halt the resettlement of refugess from terror-sponsoring nations until national security risks can be assessed

The refugee resettlement program represents a security risk to our nation and a financial risk to taxpayers. I hope you will oppose any renewal or expansion of the program in the FY17 budget until refugee resettlement from terrorist-producing countries is halted.
