Please support and pass H.R. 9773, the Permanent Trump Secure Border Act, which the Judiciary Committee is marking up today. This is the chance to write today’s border security gains into law rather than leave them to the discretion of whoever occupies the White House next.

Illegal crossings are at their lowest levels in decades, but that progress rests almost entirely on executive actions — and executive actions can be reversed by any future administration. H.R. 9773 would make the turnaround permanent: resuming border wall construction, upgrading technology and staffing, disqualifying asylum claims from migrants who passed through safe countries on the way here, strengthening the credible-fear standard so meritless claims are screened out early, ending work permits for claims that haven’t been adjudicated, requiring detention instead of release into the interior, allowing the safe repatriation of unaccompanied children from noncontiguous countries, and reining in the parole abuse that admitted hundreds of thousands of inadmissible aliens outside the law.

You would have the country behind you. The latest Harvard/Harris poll shows 80 percent of voters support deporting illegal aliens who have committed crimes — 90 percent of Republicans, 79 percent of Independents, and 71 percent of Democrats. Enforcement is not a partisan position anymore; it is the American consensus. Please support H.R. 9773 through markup and help pass it on the House floor, so we finally have an immigration system that works for the American people.
