The June jobs report counted 832,000 more Americans outside the labor force in a single month, with participation falling to 61.5 percent — its lowest point in fifty years outside the pandemic. Whatever is driving Americans to the sidelines, one thing is certain: working families cannot afford a repeat of the 2021–2025 border surge.

That is why the Judiciary Committee’s approval of H.R. 9773, the Permanent Trump Secure Border Act, matters so much. The bill would close the openings that made the last surge possible — ending catch-and-release, reining in the parole abuse used to admit hundreds of thousands outside the law, strengthening the credible-fear standard, and disqualifying asylum claims from those who passed through safe countries on the way here. It would write today’s border security into permanent law, beyond the reach of any future administration’s pen.

The committee has done its part; now the bill needs to keep moving. Please support H.R. 9773 through the remaining committees and help pass it on the House floor. American workers are owed a labor market that isn’t upended every time enforcement changes hands — and an immigration system that works for the American people.
