Pass H.R. 2 and turn June’s court wins into permanent law.

The courts just handed immigration enforcement two wins and denied it one — and only Congress can make any of them last. Pass H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, now. In late June, the Supreme Court confirmed that migrants who stop short of our border are not automatically entitled to asylum and upheld the government’s power to end Temporary Protected Status designations, even as it declined to let the government limit birthright citizenship.

With the citizenship question settled in the courts for now, the government needs every available tool to reduce the illegal entries and overstays that the ruling now rewards. Court victories help, but a future Court can narrow them, and executive actions can be undone by the next administration with the stroke of a pen. H.R. 2 would make the enforcement lane durable — writing strengthened asylum standards into law, ending catch-and-release, reining in parole abuse, criminalizing visa overstays, and mandating E-Verify to switch off the jobs magnet. Please pass it and give these gains the permanence a statute provides.
