Please support H.R. 7640, the Shut Down Sanctuary Policies Act, and bring it to the House floor for a vote.

In Fairfax County, Virginia, local officials declined a federal detainer on an MS-13 gang member — and within a day he allegedly killed the man he lived with. That is not a story unique to one county or one state. New York released nearly 7,000 criminal aliens despite federal detainers. Illinois freed a child sex abuser that ICE later had to re-arrest. A House Oversight Committee review found that sanctuary jurisdictions function as staging areas for criminal aliens across the country.

This is what sanctuary policies produce, again and again: people the federal government has every right to remove, released back into communities until someone is hurt. Immigration enforcement was never meant to wait for a violent felony — a detainer exists to act before that point. H.R. 7640 would require jurisdictions to honor federal detainers, protect the officers who cooperate, and give victims a way to hold sanctuary jurisdictions accountable. It has already cleared the Judiciary Committee; only a scheduling decision stands between it and a vote.

This is not a partisan proposition — every community deserves to know a dangerous offender will not be quietly released over a local political stance. Please bring H.R. 7640 to the floor, vote to pass it, and help build an immigration system that works for the American people.
