Layoffs keep climbing — pass H.R. 8443 and put American workers first

American tech workers keep losing their jobs. Layoff trackers have recorded more than 185,000 cut positions across the sector so far this year, with hundreds more in just the past week — and employers keep filing for H-1B workers to fill roles they claim Americans can’t. That contradiction is reason enough to act, so I am asking you to support and pass H.R. 8443, the End H-1B Visa Abuse Act.

The bill would pause new H-1B issuance for three years, then permanently lower the annual cap, replace the random lottery with wage-based selection, and require employers to certify that no qualified American is available and that they have not recently let workers go. Those requirements would put the burden where it belongs — on the companies asking to import labor while showing Americans the door.

Executive tweaks alone will not hold; a future administration could reverse them. Writing these reforms into law is the only way to protect American workers for good. Please support and pass H.R. 8443 and help build an immigration system that works for the American people.
