Cosponsor H.R. 2705
- The Colorado River makes the case for reform.
Negotiations among Colorado River Basin states recently broke down, highlighting the growing difficulty of managing a river system that supplies water to roughly 40 million people across the Southwest. Despite billions of dollars invested in conservation, drought planning, and water-efficiency measures, many gains are increasingly being offset by rising demand.
In recent years, immigration has become the primary driver of U.S. population growth. As communities add residents, demand rises for homes, roads, schools, businesses, and public services. The challenge is especially evident across the Southwest, where continued growth increases demand for water from an already stressed and overallocated river system.
Conservation efforts are important, but lasting solutions should address both supply and demand. Please help reduce future demand pressures by cosponsoring H.R. 2705, the Nuclear Family Priority Act, which would limit chain migration.
