Come back from recess ready to pass H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act. The Supreme Court’s June 30 ruling left birthright citizenship far harder to change, so reducing the illegal entries and overstays that trigger it has become the priority — and the House is leaving town without acting on it. The vote leadership promised has not happened, and a five-week recess is about to put it off even longer.

H.R. 2 would end catch-and-release, close the asylum and parole loopholes, criminalize visa overstays, and mandate E-Verify to shut off the jobs magnet — written into permanent law, beyond the reach of a future administration that could otherwise undo today’s progress with the stroke of a pen. Americans have waited long enough. Please make H.R. 2 the first thing the House takes up when it returns, and pass it.
