Foreign nationals from adversarial countries are exploiting a gap in our citizenship laws by traveling to the United States to give birth, securing automatic U.S. citizenship for children who are then taken back overseas to be raised with no allegiance to this country. On Saipan, births to Chinese nationals have skyrocketed, and recent espionage cases have underscored the real-world dangers of allowing citizenship to be obtained so easily by those with no intent to become part of the American community.

S. 304, the Birthright Citizenship Act, would close this loophole by ensuring that automatic citizenship is reserved for children of U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents — not for the children of temporary visitors, birth tourists, or those who are in this country illegally.

The Supreme Court will hear Trump v. Barbara in April, making this the ideal moment for the Senate to act. Please support and pass S. 304, the Birthright Citizenship Act.
