The President wants to codify his wins — pass H.R. 2
President Trump’s State of the Union address made clear that his administration has achieved historic results at the border: zero illegal aliens admitted in nine months, fentanyl seizures down 56%, and a record decline in the murder rate. These achievements deserve to be preserved, and the President is right that Congress needs to codify these wins into permanent law.
But it has been over 400 days since this Congress began, and Americans are still waiting for legislation to make these gains permanent. H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, would close asylum loopholes, require all employers to use E-Verify, make visa overstays a criminal offense, and eliminate the magnets that drew millions of illegal aliens here under the previous administration. This is the kind of comprehensive reform that cannot be accomplished through executive action alone.
The President warned that many in Congress would reopen the border if given the opportunity. Don’t let that happen. Please reintroduce and pass H.R. 2 to ensure that America’s border security gains are written into law and protected from future reversal.
