Your vote is the margin — support H.R. 2 and mandatory E-Verify
The country has reached a quiet consensus on immigration. In the latest Harvard/Harris poll, a majority of Democrats say the party stands against open borders.
Most Americans now agree on something that once divided us: Our immigration laws should be enforced, and the workers who follow the rules deserve to be protected. I’m part of that majority and hope you are, too.
That consensus runs straight through the Senate. After the House acts, nothing reaches the President’s desk without 60 votes, which means Senate Democrats are not bystanders on H.R. 2. You are the margin, and your support is necessary to keep E-Verify in the package and turn a popular idea into permanent law.
The heart of H.R. 2, which passed the House in 2023, is mandatory nationwide E-Verify. Requiring employers to verify that every new hire is authorized to work would dry up the jobs magnet at its source, keep American paychecks from being undercut, and let our enforcement agencies concentrate on genuine threats. That is a worker-protection measure, plain and simple, and it would provide exactly the result the American people keep asking Washington to deliver.
When H.R. 2 reaches the Senate, I urge you to vote to advance it. The chance to lock these protections into law is here now — please do not let it slip away.
