McCaul border bill won’t secure the border
In recent days, I’ve heard House GOP Leaders talk about using Rep. Michael McCaul’s border bill, H.R. 399, as a starting point for immigration reform. I don’t support this bill, and President-elect Donald Trump already has the authorization he needs to secure the border through existing legislation.

No new legislation needed to complete border fence
We are glad that President-elect Trump and Vice President-elect Pence are committed to building a fence along the Southern border and that many Republican Members of Congress are committed to making it happen. Existing law already gives the president the authority needed to build a fence, and we hope you’ll support President-elect Trump in this effort.

Do not to repeat last year’s expansion of H-2B guest-worker program
USCIS recently notified employers to identify returning workers on their H-2B applications for FY2017. This was done in anticipation of Congress extending a provision from last year’s spending bill that exempted returning workers from the annual cap of 66,000, potentially quadrupling the number of visas given out. This would have a devastating effect on American workers with a high school education or less who have unemployment rates significantly higher than the national average. Please oppose any efforts to expand the H-2B visa program in the FY2017 spending bills.

New report shows impact of immigration on less educated workers
Research by the National Academy of Sciences has concluded that high levels of immigration benefit businesses instead of workers and reduces wages for low-skilled and less-educated workers. Please support overall reductions in immigration numbers to protect jobs and wages for all Americans.

Oppose any expansion of the H-2B visa program
I urge you to oppose any expansion of the H-2B low-skilled guest worker program in the upcoming continuing resolution. The unemployment rates for Americans with a high school degree or less are nearly double the national average, and these Americans have to compete directly for jobs with H-2B visa holders.

Halt the resettlement of refugess from terror-sponsoring nations until national security risks can be assessed
The refugee resettlement program represents a security risk to our nation and a financial risk to taxpayers. I hope you will oppose any renewal or expansion of the program in the FY17 budget until refugee resettlement from terrorist-producing countries is halted.

End ‘Wet Foot, Dry Foot’ policy
A group of nine Latin American foreign ministers — Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, and Peru — have written to U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, urging the U.S. to end its “wet foot, dry foot” policy for Cuban immigrants. I urge you to listen to their arguments and support passage of H.R. 3818, the Ending Special National Origin-Based Immigration Programs for Cubans Act, to end the special status Cuban immigrants have.

House proposal would release Criminal Aliens onto the streets
Many law enforcement groups, including the National Association of Assistant U.S. Attorneys, oppose the House’s criminal justice reform legislation. This proposal would release thousands of dangerous criminal aliens onto the streets. Please do all you can to make sure it doesn’t become law unless it excludes non-citizens.

The National Association of Retired Border Patrol Officers has endorsed NumbersUSA’s 10 Steps to Fixing the Broken Immigration System. I think there’s no better authority on the issue of illegal immigration than retired Border Patrol officers. Support ending birthright citizenship

Push for interior enforcement
We cannot understand why Congress and the Obama administration are not requiring federal agencies to enforce immigration laws and not requiring states and localities to assist in enforcing the law. The tragic shooting death of Kate Steinle by a five-times deported illegal alien could have been prevented if the laws currently on the books were enforced. Please support and help to pass H.R. 1148, the Davis-Oliver Act. This bill would outlaw sanctuary cities and require all immigration laws to be enforced.
