H-2B increases would abandon blue-collar workers
Sen. Jeff Sessions has written to the Senate Appropriations Committee urging them to oppose efforts to quadruple H-2B visa numbers to 264,000. I urge you to read his letter and do all you can to support jobless Americans by opposing this massive increase in foreign workers.

More content out of context
In a previous letter, I wondered about the inclusion of a gratuitous claim that Newton T. Bass was a racist (“Racist roots of Apple Valley,” April 21), which was in response to an article by Matthew Cabe (“Hilltop House Offer Accepted,” Daily Press, April 17). I tried to make clear that was not questioning the allegation itself so much as that it did not seem germane. If Mr. Cabe had tied allegations of previous racism with the Town’s push to make a landmark out of the home of a famous local racist, that would have been one thing. Given that our mayor was once fired for making a racist remark, and given that others on the Town council have engaged repeatedly in derogatory ethnic references, it might have made an interesting story indeed. Failing that, the insertion in passing of an allegation of racism is, at best, controversial only for the sake of being controversial, not for the sake of being enlightening.

Oppose A.B. 2607
As a resident of California, I respectfully urge you to OPPOSE Assembly Bill 2607. This bill will do nothing to reduce the California violent crime rate and would only hurt the law-abiding gun owners of California.

Oppose Ryan’s ‘crime reform’ bill
Please oppose efforts in the Judiciary Committee to bring H.R. 3713, the Sentencing Reform Act of 2015, to the House floor. This legislation, as it is currently written, would release thousands of dangerous non-citizen offenders at a time when the Obama administration has shown a refusal to deport even the most violent criminal aliens.

Earth Day
This Earth Day, I hope you will take a moment to realize the impact mass immigration has on our nation’s environment.

U.S. granted 1 million green cards in 2014
Recently released statistics from DHS show that the U.S. issued more than 1 million green cards in 2014. This is far too high a number and Congress needs to take action to cut immigration numbers.

Republicans MUST put American workers before illegal aliens
During an interview with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, MSNBC host Chris Matthews accused Republican Congressional leaders of refusing to bring up mandatory E-Verify legislation because it would rob businesses of cheap labor. I hope you and other pro-American worker Republicans will urge Speaker Ryan and other Republican leaders to bring a clean mandatory E-Verify bill to the floor so that Republicans can prove they care more about American workers than they do about businesses being able to hire cheap illegal labor.

Racism in Apple Valley
I’m mystified by the passing reference to Newton T. Bass as a racist (“Hilltop House Offer Accepted,” Daily Press, April 17, 2016), especially in the context of the article, which says that “Town officials [are] ‘estatic’ over purchase,” and that his former home would be returned to its “former glory” to become “a magnificent part of our town.” Given this, it would seem that Apple Valley has deep-seated white racism, which it now intends to memorialize and celebrate.

Mass immigration makes homegrown terrorism more likely
High levels of immigration create disconnected communities that make it easier for home-grown terrorists like the ones in Paris and Brussels to plan attacks. Congress should work to reduce immigration to make it easier to assimilate new immigrants and make our communities safer.

Keep foreign criminals in jail
Please oppose the Sentencing Reform Act of 2015 as it is currently written. This legislation would release thousands of dangerous non-citizen offenders at a time when the Obama administration has shown a refusal to deport even the most violent criminal aliens.

Fact Check: Rep. Beyer wrong about immigration and population growth
Recently, Rep. Don Beyer was fact checked on his claim that U.S. population would actually shrink if legal immigration were reduced, but his claim was rated “mostly false” by Politifact. I hope you will not believe anyone who says that mass immigration is required to grow or sustain America’s population.

Democrats need to back American workers by passing E-Verify
During an interview with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, MSNBC host Chris Matthews accused Republican Congressional leaders of refusing to bring up mandatory E-Verify legislation because it would rob businesses of cheap labor. I hope you and your fellow Democrats will stand up for American workers by forcing a vote on mandatory E-Verify legislation so that businesses would be forced to hire unemployed Americans.

No taxpayer-funded lawyers for illegal aliens
It is ridiculous that Sen. Harry Reid and Rep. Zoe Lofgren have introduced legislation that would require the government to use tax dollars to provide UACs with lawyers. Individuals who came to this country illegally should not receive any more handouts and you should not support this legislation.

Urge Congress to defund sanctuary cities
It is appalling that after the deaths of Kate Steinle and numerous other innocent Americans, Congress has still not acted to reign in sanctuary cities. I urge you to stand up for the rule of law and American lives by doing all you can to make sure sanctuary cities are defunded as part of the FY2017 appropriations process.

New CIS report shows massive immigrant population growth
A new report from the Center for Immigration Studies shows that immigrants and their children now represent 18.9% of the U.S. population. This represents a drastic increase from 1970, when immigrants and their children represented 6.6% of the population. Current immigration levels are far above America’s historic average and need to be decreased. On top of this, a new Bloomberg poll shows that 61% of Americans believe current immigration levels jeopardize the United States. I hope you will read the report and the poll results and act to reduce immigration to sustainable levels.

Bill would establish refugee cap of 60,000, Authorizes Congress, only, to make changes
H.R. 4731, the Refugee Program Integrity Restoration Act would establish a ceiling of 60,000 refugees per year and require Congressional approval to change it. It would also reform America’s refugee system and make our country safer. I urge you to push for a House vote on this legislation.
-
Put American workers first by reducing immigration
As you know, our nation is still recovering from one of its most trying economic times since the Great Depression. Millions of Americans are struggling to find jobs, and the workforce participation rate is at its lowest in decades. But not a day goes by that business groups and labor unions aren’t pushing for more legal immigration.

DHS: Refugee influx could bring terrorists
DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson recently told a House panel that the influx of refugees from the Middle East creates a perfect opportunity for terrorists to enter the United States. Please pass H.R. 4731, the Refugee Program Integrity Restoration Act, which would reform the refugee program and increase its security.

Minimum wage
I applaud Representative Jay Obernolte’s opposition to increasing the minimum wage, even though his reasoning is way off base (“Minimum wage increase treats symptom, not disease,” Daily Press, April 3, 2016).
