End chain migration
Black abolitionists and civil rights leaders have been unapologetic about putting Americans first in immigration policy. As Pamela Denise Long writes in American Affairs (“Immigration Viewed From the Back of the Hiring Line,” August, 2022):
-
Biden’s immigration policies are accelerating America’s population growth
Most Americans agree that population growth comes with serious drawbacks (e.g., crowded highways and schools, lack of affordable housing, water shortages, urban sprawl) and want tighter immigration control from the Biden administration. These results cross party and ideological lines, according to recent polling.
-
Americans want and need open space
Despite, and perhaps because of, the growing population density of our nation, Americans more than ever feel strongly about the need to protect open spaces. These natural areas support agricultural and forest production, and provide clean water, flood control, wildlife habitat and biodiversity, and recreational opportunities.

A potential security risk: Oppose S. 4787
I’m deeply concerned about the Biden Administration’s continued abuse of executive “parole” that allows foreign nationals to stay and work in the United States without a visa, including the more than 100,000 Afghan evacuees who were given parole and don’t qualify for refugee status or the special immigrant visa program created by Congress.
-
Saving wildlife is hopeless while America’s population keeps booming
Although states with high population growth have more political influence, there are considerable drawbacks. America is experiencing a “biodiversity crisis,” mostly from habitat loss caused by our immigration-driven population. Wildlife species keep getting added to America’s list of endangered and threatened wildlife, now exceeding a mind-boggling 1,300 species.

S. 4787 issues green cards without properly vetting the recipients. Oppose.
S. 4787 would issue 100,000 green cards even though the recipients don’t qualify for refugee status or a special immigrant visa program already created by Congress.

Reduce immigration to strengthen resilience to extreme climate
During the past 20 years, America has lost more than 11.5 million acres to development. A majority of the loss was a result of the U.S. population growing by nearly 40 million people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, our country is poised to add another 75 million people by 2060 — with roughly 90% due to immigration.
-
Population growth undermines efforts to protect open space
The Biden Administration’s “Conserving and Restoring America the Beautiful” plan aims to protect 30 percent of America’s land from development by 2030. The more-ambitious “Nature Needs Half” movement argues for stopping the destruction of natural habitat before the ratio falls below 50 percent (already too late for many countries, but not the United States).
-
Population growth is putting pressure on America’s farmland
We are witnessing the dramatic loss of farmland in America. Plus, the farmland remaining is being degraded due to fragmentation, salinization, and/or topsoil erosion. This permanent loss of the means to produce food has been driven by our own population growth. What makes America unique among rapidly-growing countries is that our high growth in numbers is facilitated primarily through permissive immigration policies.

Please support mandatory E-Verify
The simplest way to end illegal immigration is by requiring all employers to use E-Verify. I hope you’ll support this commonsense solution and push for a vote on legislation that would mandate E-Verify nationwide.
-
Pass legislation to end illegal immigration and secure the border
Due to the actions (or inaction) of the Biden administration, the border is out of control and illegal immigration is rampant. Congress must make securing the border and tackling illegal immigration a priority during the remainder of the 117th Congress and during the 118th Congress. Legislation must include:
-
It’s past time to end birthright citizenship
Often lost in the immigration debate is the issue of Birthright Citizenship. Birthright Citizenship is an outdated practice that lures foreign nationals to the United States so their unborn children can become U.S. citizens. Please work to end this ridiculous policy!
-
Immigration hurts minority workers, especially American descendants of slavery
I’m deeply concerned that legislators are waging an immigration offensive that will worsen the job prospects for American descendants of slaves, working class Americans, and U.S.-born STEM professionals. Please make helping the American middle-class your primary legislative focus. More immigration means fewer jobs for the American citizens that need them the most.
-
I’m glad you support mandatory E-Verify
H.R. 78, the Legal Workforce Act would, within three years, require all employers to run new hires through the E-Verify system. Isn’t this great news? Instead of unscrupulous employers being able to drive down wages and take advantage of illegal aliens, they will now be obliged to hire unemployed Americans and legal immigrants.
-
I oppose green cards for unvetted Afghan evacuees!
A handful of bipartisan U.S. Senators have introduced S. 4787 to give green cards to more than 100,000 Afghan evacuees who don’t qualify for refugee status or special immigrant visas. I oppose this legislation!
-
How Democrats are making it harder to save biodiversity
I am writing to you because I am concerned about our unsustainable population growth, driven primarily by your immigration policies, which add more than one million per year (more than two million since the current border crisis began). America is inexorably losing its open spaces and wilderness areas, along with a wide array of wildlife.
-
End the border crisis
Border Patrol agents are on pace to make more than 2 million apprehensions of illegal border crossers during the current fiscal year. It’s past time for Congress to take action to end this historic border crisis!
-
Democratic cities are being overwhelmed by border surge
New York City Mayor Adams is overwhelmed by busloads of migrants coming from the border. Cities closer to the border have been overwhelmed for months. There is nothing “compassionate” about facilitating a border crisis. End asylum fraud, catch and release, and the abuse of parole authority. Reinstate and mandate the Migration Protection Protocols program.
-
Back the Freedom Caucus’ border plan!
It is incredibly disappointing that the White House has taken no steps to address the Biden Border Crisis. The situation at the border represents a threat to our national security, and you and your fellow Republicans need to keep it front and center.
-
Americans need access to untrampled open space
Nature-lovers such as myself care most about biodiversity/species extinction and the incremental loss of America’s dwindling open spaces, e.g., wildlife habitat and wilderness. These problems are a direct and readily-observable result of our nation’s population growth.
